Richard is Barn Door’s resident professional athlete having competed over a number of years in the sport of athletics for both England and Great Britain.
Richard is a multiple national champion over 400 hurdles and also holds a Commonwealth Games bronze medal from the 4x400 metre relay at the 2010 Delhi Games.
Richard has now transferred a number of the attributes learnt from his successful career as a professional athlete into a career in law and works as an Associate in JMW’s Commercial Litigation Department. Richard’s client base includes a number of Olympic medallists and Premier League Footballers and he regularly advises on issues ranging from contractual disputes to anti-doping and regulatory matters.
The governance and development of sport remains of the utmost important to Richard and he was recently elected as the Vice-Chairperson of the UK Athletics Athletes Commission. He is in regular contact and dialogue with the country’s leading athletes in relation to pertinent issues affecting sport which are then fed back to the sport’s governing body for consideration.
Outside of work, Richard has now hung up his athletics spikes and is enjoying training for triathlons but does not expect to pick up any international medals anytime soon.
